My biggest concern about starting a blog was, “What am I going to write about on a regular basis?”

And that’s exactly where I found myself today—sitting here, staring at a blank screen, wondering what to write.

While clicking around on WordPress, I noticed the “daily writing prompt.” Today’s prompt was:

“Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.”

So, like any focused and serious writer, I opened my search engine and typed:
“entirely uninteresting news articles.”

The second search result was titled “Weird News,” which obviously didn’t fit my search criteria.
But my ADHD had other ideas.
Click.

And my ADHD did not disappoint.

“Animals Celebrating National Watermelon Day”? Yes, please.
“A Humanoid Robot Has Painted a Picture of Charles? How Did It Do?” Oh, how did it do??
“Thousands of Hot Dogs Spill Across Busy Highway”? No, no! These are supposed to be uninteresting articles, ADHD!

And then:
“Company at Heart of Coldplay Viral Video Releases Tongue-in-Cheek Clip.”
I actually laughed out loud. Hilarious? Yes. Boring? Absolutely not.

So, back to the search engine I go.
Focused. Determined.
Except… ooh, look, the “People Also Ask” section. I mean, it would be close-minded not to look…

“15 Most Iconic Headlines Ever Printed.” Intriguing. I mean, entirely uninteresting.
(Did I look? No. But if I had, I imagine the Titanic, V-E Day, and the Kennedy assassination would be on there, which, spoiler alert: not boring.)

Still searching…

Hmm more weird news. Surely, could that be promising?.

“Dolphins ‘Deliberately Get High’ on Pufferfish”?
I mean, that sounds uninteresting. I’ll just peek.
NOPE—absolutely hilarious.

“Why Are Cats Scared of Cucumbers?”
Okay, science needs to answer this. I’m invested now.

Finally, in desperation, I ask ChatGPT.

It gives me this gem:
“Woman Mistakes Town Meeting for Trump Rally, Smears 30 Cars with Peanut Butter.”
Is it true? Who knows. But it’s definitely not boring.

So Here’s the Truth:

I failed to find an entirely uninteresting news article.

I’m sure I could have if I had tried harder. If I had been more disciplined. If I had ignored the dolphins, the cucumbers, and the peanut butter vandalism.

But here’s the thing: I don’t want to read something dull just to prove I can connect it to my life.

What I do need is to hold on to wonder. And finding joy in the detours. And being okay with the fact that sometimes my best effort ends with a deep dive into cats, robots, and rogue condiment enthusiasts.

So today’s prompt?
Total fail.
And I’m okay with that.

Sometimes brilliance happens when you stop trying to force the fog to clear—and just enjoy the weirdness instead.

I’ve included the links to the news sites if you’re looking for a few laughs. Enjoy!
