I’m not a fan of Monday holidays. This has been true for me for a long time.

It probably dates back to high school.

I went to Catholic high school… I know, what were my parents thinking?! A mischief-maker like me in Catholic school

Yep, and not only did I graduate, but I also NEVER had detention. Shocking, right?

In high school, we had a “waterfall” schedule. (I never knew it was called that until my daughter’s school implemented one.)

My high school waterfall schedule was eight classes crammed into seven slots. With the exception of one period, all the class slots rotated, and the eighth class would be dropped. So, second period was fixed, and the other six classes rotated. Today’s third period would become first period tomorrow. Fourth would become third, fifth would become fourth, sixth would become fifth, seventh would become sixth. The eighth class that I didn’t have today would be added back in and meet during seventh period, and today’s first period would not meet tomorrow.

Make sense?

Confusing, I know.

In high school, the days were labeled by letter, I think? Now I’m overthinking it and I’m not sure. So let’s say the days were labeled by letter.

Eight days need eight letters, so days A–H. So if today was Day A, tomorrow would be Day B, etc.

I never knew what day it was or what my first-period class was. Super fun!

Then add in a Monday holiday with a day off.

If the Friday before the holiday was C day, we’d return to school on Tuesday, which should be D day, right?

Nope. Not always. Sometimes we would skip the next day, and Tuesday would be E day.

So all this craziness might be the reason why I don’t like Monday holidays.

And also because Monday holidays potentially lead to Monday’s schedule on Tuesday, which I like to call Fake Monday.

I don’t like Fake Monday, because Tuesday pretending to be Monday is confusing.

There are a lot more holidays on Mondays than any other day, so I understand that skipping Monday leads to a disproportionate number of Mondays compared to the rest of the days.

But it’s not like Monday is going to get jealous of the other days!

Our trash pickup will be Thursday this week instead of Wednesday. Of course, that isn’t true of all Monday holidays, but I believe it will be this week.

If Tuesday is Fake Monday, one could reason that Wednesday is Fake Tuesday. Nope, this is not a thing. What is SO important about Monday that we have Fake Mondays on Tuesdays, but no other days of the week get special treatment like that?

I was going to say I could get behind a Fake Sunday… which would occur on a Monday. But wouldn’t that just be a Monday holiday and result in another Fake Monday?

And if the week is shorter because there’s no school or work on a Monday holiday, why does it feel like Friday took forever to get here?

I think we should boycott Fake Monday. No one is allowed to follow a Monday schedule tomorrow. That should show them.

I just don’t know who them is… and I’m pretty sure it won’t change anything.

And don’t blame me if your boss is mad that you missed this week’s Monday meeting on Tuesday because you boycotted Fake Monday!

Ugh. That was a lot. Talk about overthinking! I hope you’ve enjoyed the chaos my brain creates over trivial matters. lol

If you’ve ever lost track of what day it is after a long weekend, you’re not alone. Fake Mondays are confusing, exhausting, and slightly unfair to everyone just trying to function.
